Readahead loads files into the memory which are needed during the boot process. If you add the argument ‘profile’ to your kernel command line readahead will observe the boot process and recreate its list of files to preload. After subtracting the 3 seconds for the typing of the password, this results in a boot time of 37 seconds, 4 seconds faster than before.
I'm a computer science student at the Karlsruhe
Institute of Technology. In my spare time I create some nice pieces of
software (mostly for the web), enjoy tuning some of my websites or volunteer
in a fantastic youth organisation.
