New version of Last.fm nationality statistics
3Jun2009 Filed under: Last.fm Author: xhochyAfter some time of work, I’m proud to announce that I released the second version of my nationality statistics. There have been a lot of changes done in the last time:
- Added some various tag->country mappings
- Introduced United Kingdom as a nation instead of seperating it into England, Scotland and Wales
- Using my latest version of ruby-scrobbler
- Now the whole library is scanned for artists and their nations except than only the top 50 artists (This makes the script a bit slower but the result are now better)
- New caching algorithms and times: Your library is stored for 1 week, the result of “Which nation is artist # from?” 3 days and your charts get regenerated every 24 hours.

Hi,
ich habe grad mal deine Nationality Stats ausprobiert, die bei den Profilen von ein paar Freunden auch klasse funktionieren….nur bei meinem eigenen (maschinekn) dummerweise nicht.
Ich klicke auf show stats, der Kreis beginnt sich zu drehen, stockt kurz…und dreht sich dann weiter (und zwar stundenlang).
Kann es sein, dass ich einfach zu viele Plays/Artists (60.000/5000) habe?

Ja, bei 5000 Künstlern dauert das leider beim ersten Mal sehr lange, da Last.fm pro Künstler teils 1-2 Sekunden brauch um die Tagdaten zu liefern, ich kann da leider nichts beschleunigen, aber es kann theoretisch aber auch sein, dass ein Fehler aufgetreten ist. Da ich deinen Usernamen habe, werde ich in den nächsten Tagen (wenn gerade mal Zeit dazu ist
) nachprüfen, ob da etwas schief gelaufen ist.

The Band is listed as an band from the United States, but they hail from Canada.

Greetings, I have been noticing many artists are labled “unknown”. Is there a way for you to input the correct countries? If you would like I could send you the corrections from the artists on my list.

Do you include Northern Ireland as a part of UK?

In the moment Nothern Ireland tags are not handled at all, but I will make them merge into UK, the problem is that a lot of people tag Northern Ireland artist just with Ireland which makes it impossible to distinguish between Nothern Ireland and Ireland.

Thanks, good idea…but, is 2500+ artists too many for this to run? I left it for over an hour I think and the page was still loading. I tried someone with less unique artists and there was no problem.
P.S. Austria shows as “Austia”

Well, it’s not due to too many artists, one with 3500+ just worked in seconds. My username is TheAlexH
